About Mary

I am a licensed clinical social worker deeply committed to bringing my presence, training, insight, and life experiences to supporting clients in meeting life with whole-heartedness and resilience. I draw from a diverse professional background that includes (in addition to social work) mindfulness meditation, teaching, community activism, government service, organization management, and communication. As a result, I have an acute understanding not only of our internal emotional, mental, and nervous system landscapes, but the outside factors and systems that profoundly impact our lives.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, I’ve lived in Williamsburg since 2003 and am active in the community here, with a special focus on social/racial justice and Buddhist meditation and study. I earned my Masters in Social Work (MSW) from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2021, with field work serving young women experiencing breast cancer and families experiencing domestic violence. Since 2021, I have been providing mental health counseling in a private practice setting serving all populations, with a special passion for the LGBTIA+ (especially trans) community; neurodiverse folks; those who have experienced trauma, anxiety and depression; and those grappling with parenting/relationship challenges.

My intention

Compassionate Heartspace was founded to provide a space where you can be seen and supported - with the safety to explore, heal, and remember your wholeness. In reconnecting with your inner strength and wisdom, you can discover how to nurture yourself - and meet life wholeheartedly with meaning and joy.
